The things we did while we were pregnant were either done out of lack of knowledge they might have an effect -- usually completely "off our radar" -- or doing the best we could do at the time. This helps me tremendously… when I ask myself if I "did anything on purpose"? Or if I was brazenly irresponsible with how I cared for myself? The answer is no. If I had possibly known that my child would have the problems she has, I would have done ANYTHING to do things differently. So this helps me when guilt comes crawling back in...Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13236673870317800191noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5895440453335552117.post-8877027943546177892014-06-16T15:10:23.563-04:002014-06-16T15:10:23.563-04:00madeleine, you make me cry. thank you.madeleine, you make me cry. thank you.Christy Shakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00106761191160700997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5895440453335552117.post-56700481932565258062014-06-16T14:51:15.095-04:002014-06-16T14:51:15.095-04:00The miracle of nature is that our complicated bodi...The miracle of nature is that our complicated bodies work as often and as well as they do. There's nothing to forgive yourself for. But it's hard to forgive the universe for all the chaos and randomness that can lead to disease and disability. We want it all to be logical and predictable and to have meaning. But sometimes, shit just happens. If you knew the cause of Calvin's developmental problems it would just hurt differently. Whatever it was, it was an accident. One of the leaves on the vine absorbed the wrong bit of sunlight and the flower bloomed before the proper season. It seems a tragic waste, but your response has been to find beauty when and where you can. That's another miracle, this time of the human spirit.
