sacredness in tears

There is a sacredness in tears.
They are not a mark of weakness,
but of power.
They speak more eloquently
than ten thousand tongues.
They are the messengers of
overwhelming grief,
of deep contrition and of
unspeakable love.

—Washington Irving

  1. I agree, tears are sacred. Until they come too often--because AED's make you so emotionally unbalanced that you find yourself balling over sociology reading in the middle of the library. Or because something a friend says brings back the trauma of making the decision to have brain surgery. Epilepsy pushes us right up to the tipping point where sacred tears can become toxic.

  2. Tears are sacred, until they come too often. Until they come when you are reading about injustice in your sociology textbook because of the emotional turmoil AEDs cause. Until they come because you feel that, in removing part of your brain, there is no good option. Epilepsy pushes us right up to the delicate line between where tears are sacred and where they become toxic.

  3. Tropicalpenguin's comments are valid, but I would add another view...I have always found tears healing. Simply put, they let it out--the pain, the anguish. I thank goodness for tears...

  4. To clarify, I totally agree. Many of the times I have cried, my tears have been very healing. It is the tears that I feel like do not reflect my own feelings, like the ones that come from my Neurontin or Vimpat, that I would gladly rid myself from. Thanks for the dialogue, Unknown!!
